Awesome! The supreme excitement of my time. My folks took me to see this when it debuted. It changed my life. I loved the mutant! Only five, and the course of my future changed that night. Much kudos should go to Millicent Patrick, who designed the mutant and made the prototype model for it. Also to Chris Mueller who probably did the full-size modeling of the head. And don’t forget Eddie Parker who gave the monster suit life with his pantomime.
Raymond Durgnat’s book, FILMS AND FEELINGS,has a mind-blowing chapter on the metaphors and imagery of This Island Earth. If you can find a copy, buy it! It’s a real eye-opener.
