Serena Williams Net Worth 2023

It is very rare for a person to completely revolutionize a sport and become the face of a generation. It is rarer still when their own sister preceded them. When Venus Williams first started winning major tennis titles, the sports world stopped to take notice and a new star was born. Little did everyone know that her younger sister would turn out to be even more talented.

It is undeniable that Serena Williams will go down as one of the best to ever play tennis. For many years of her professional career, she seemed almost unbeatable and the betting operators featured fun games that regularly made her odds on favorite to win prestigious events such as the US Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open.

Although she has now retired from the sport to concentrate on other areas of her life, Serena Williams continues to be an inspiration to young girls everywhere. Her dedication to her craft – and the success that she achieved – is a testament to a life devoted to being the best that she could be in all walks of life. That success obviously also brought her a lot of money and she continues to be one of the wealthiest people in sports, even after walking away from the court.

Personal Details

Serena Jameka Williams was born on September 26, 1981, making her 42 years of age now. She stands at 5 ft 9 inches, or 175 cm, and she used her power and strength to win numerous tennis titles throughout her career.

Early Life

Williams was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Oracene Price and Richard Williams. Her father had five daughters, with Serena being the youngest of the family. Venus is the oldest of the siblings. When she was still very young, Serena and her family moved to Compton. California and it was there that she started to play tennis at the tender age of four.

Serena showed early promise in the sport – as did her sister, Venus – and Richard Williams decided that the family should move to Florida where they could be expertly coached and concentrate on tennis. By the age of 10, Serena was the number one in the country for her age but was pulled out of all junior competition just four years later by her father. He also took over her coaching.

Serena’s first professional appearance was as an under-age wild-car entrant at the Bell Challenge in Quebec in 1995. She won just two games and lost her first qualifying round match in straight sets. She would not compete again professionally until 1997. As the older sister, Venus had started winning major events but it took until 1999 for Serena to win her first. It is fair to say that she got a taste for victory.

Career Achievements

It is probably easier to list the tournaments Serena Williams failed to win in her incredible career. After playing in the shadow of Venus in the beginning, Serena soon burst through to become the best player in the world and ended her time on the courts of the world with an incredible record of 858 wins and just 156 losses. That’s a win percentage of 84.6%.

Serena ended up winning 75 career titles, putting her fifth on the all-time list for women. She was obviously ranked number one in the world for the majority of her career and, unlike some tennis specialists, could play on just about any court surface.

As far as tennis majors go, it is probably the gravel courts of the French Open that troubled her the most, as she won the event just three times. Even then she was able to win in her early 20s as well as when she had entered her third decade. Serena finished her career also winning the US Open six times, Wimbledon seven times, and the Australian Open on seven occasions. She also won Olympic gold in London in 2012. But that is just in the singles game.

Although she played nowhere near as many doubles games in her career, she still posted a similar win percentage and won 14 majors titles. You can add another two if you want to include mixed doubles majors as well. She was also able to add another three Olympic golds thanks to the doubles events.

Husband and Family

Serena Williams married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in New Orleans in 2017. In September of that year, she gave birth to her first child, a daughter who they called Alexis Olympia. The timing of the birth meant that she had won the Australian Open at the beginning of the year when she was already eight weeks pregnant. A second daughter, Adira River, was born in August 2023, roughly a year after she retired from tennis.

Net Worth

After one of the most successful careers in all of sports, Serena Williams retired from tennis with about $450 million in earnings. That includes approximately $100 million in on-court prize money. Thanks to a very successful life off the court as well, it is estimated that Serena Williams’ net worth in 2023 is around $260 million.

Much of the money she has made has come through high-profile endorsements. At times in her career and life, she has enjoyed deals with the likes of Ford, Gatorade, Gucci, and Nike – among many others.

Even before she hung up her tennis racquet, Serena was busy with other projects, including a fashion label, a venture capital firm, and has appeared in a number of films. She also holds a minority stake in NFL team the Miami Dolphins, as well as in Angel City FC of the NWSL.

Serena Williams continues to be an inspiration to many – as well as earning millions thanks to her talent and her marketable personality.
